Gorilla trekking is one of the most done tourism activities in the world. Thousands and thousands of people visit the gorillas in their natural setting throughout the year. There are only three places in the whole world where one can track the gorillas in their natural environment. These are Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo and among these Rwanda is the most popular and preferred one.

This is why it has a higher rate of a gorilla permit compared to its counterparts.  Rwanda has about 400 mountain gorillas in its perch which is almost a third of the total population of mountain gorillas in the world. Rwanda gorilla safaris take place in the magnificent volcanoes national park in the northeastern part of the country. This amazing gorilla hub sits at the Virunga ranges which are straddled by the three countries of Rwanda, Uganda and DR Congo.Baby Gorilla in Rwanda

  • Rwanda is very sound and safe

In the 1990s, Rwanda was distorted by the genocide plight but this has come to the past and now the country is one of the most secure destinations in Africa. Thanks to its government that has worked tooth and nail to ensure that no havoc is caused in the country again. In Rwanda, a tourist is guaranteed security at any time and any given place. With the security granted, the tourist is likely to have a peace of mind and hence having an enjoyable gorilla safari.

  • The proximity of the capital city to the gorilla habitat

Volcanoes national park is 2 hours’ drive from Kigali the capital of Rwanda. With the volcanoes national park near the getaway point of Kigali International Airport, tourists find it easy to go gorilla trekking in Rwanda compared to other destinations. For instance in Uganda, a tourist has to travel for about 11 hours to reach Bwindi impenetrable national park or Mgahinga national park.

Rwanda has a third of the world population of the mountain gorillas (400 individuals) and out of the 400 mountain gorillas in Rwanda, 17 families are habituated. In context 17 gorilla families can be tracked by the tourists. This implies that tourists have a variety of gorilla families to track basing on their preference of experience.

It should be noted that the locales of the gorilla families defer as some gorilla families live near the start point of the tracking and others live in the far forests of the park. Therefore tourists of all sort for example the adventurous one and less adventurous ones are all catered for.Gorilla safaris in Rwanda
